Grow a Garden weather is the engine behind every big payday – each event applies a mutation multiplier, and the players who plan around the rotation out-earn everyone else.

grow a garden weather - all events and mutations

Weather is the engine behind every big payday in Grow a Garden. Each event applies a specific mutation to crops left in your garden, and smart players plan their harvests around it. This guide lists the weather events, the mutation each one grants, and how to farm them. Check what a mutated harvest is worth with our crop value calculator.

Harvest Moon weather (live)

Fill the pedestals with the required fruits to summon Harvest Moon for about 10 minutes. During the window, crops can roll Moonbeam (~50% chance per community/wiki event notes). Sell Moonbeam fruit at the Moon Sell Stand for Moon Coins (event track + shop). Permanent Night / Blood Moon / Meteor loops still apply — see Night, Blood Moon, Meteor Shower. Sheckle multiplier for Moonbeam: confirm in-game tooltip (not yet locked in our calculator chips). Updated August 10, 2026.

How to Farm Weather Events

  • Keep your most valuable crops planted and unharvested – crops only collect mutations while in the ground.
  • When a Thunderstorm is announced, do not harvest early. Let lightning strike, then collect the Shocked crops.
  • Layer events: a crop that survives multiple events carries multiple mutations, and their multipliers stack additively.
  • Admin and holiday events (Sun God, Black Hole) grant the rarest mutations – log in during announced event windows.

Combining Weather with Everything Else

Weather mutations are only one layer. Stack them with a Gold or Rainbow growth variant, sprinkler weight bonuses, and the friend sell bonus, and a single crop can reach thousands of times its base value. The math is covered in our complete mutations guide.

How Long Weather Events Last and How Often They Happen

EventDurationFrequency
Rain2-3 minVery common – roughly every 20 minutes
Thunderstorm3-5 minUncommon – typically every 2 to 6 hours, no fixed schedule
Frost3-5 minUncommon; unavailable during Summer months
Heatwave3-5 minCommon
Windy / Sandstorm3-5 minOccasional
NightAbout 10 minEvery 4 hours
Blood MoonAbout 4 minReplaces roughly 1 in 3 Night cycles
Meteor ShowerAbout 3 minDuring Night or Blood Moon – the rarest natural event
Rainbow / Flood1-2 minRare – react immediately
Volcano2-3 minRare
Bee Swarm10 min windowHourly during bee events
Aurora / Solar Eclipse / TornadoVariesRare, no fixed timer

Night is the anchor to plan around: it arrives every 4 hours, brings Moonlit mutations, has a one-in-three chance of upgrading to a Blood Moon, and is the only window for Meteor Showers and their 120x Celestial mutation.

You Must Be Online to Get Weather Mutations

Crops keep growing while you are offline, but they do not receive weather mutations unless you are actively in the game when the event occurs. This is the single most misunderstood rule in weather farming – an overnight AFK garden gains weight, not Shocked crops. Schedule real sessions around Night cycles and storm windows if mutations are the goal.

When to Plant Before an Event

The weather indicator in your HUD shows the current and incoming weather. When you see a valuable event approaching, the ideal window to plant or protect crops is 2 to 5 minutes before it arrives – crops planted after the event has already started may not capture the mutation at all. Veterans keep a reserve of fast-growing seeds ready to slam down the moment a Thunderstorm icon appears.

Lightning Rods and Weather Gear

The Lightning Rod attracts lightning strikes within its radius during Thunderstorms – up to three strikes before it breaks. Placed among your best crops, it converts the 100x Shocked mutation from random luck into a targeted strike on the crops you chose. Combine it with sprinkler coverage so those crops are also as heavy as possible when the multiplier lands.

Weather-Exclusive Seeds and Pets

Some weather events drop more than mutations: exclusive seeds like the Frostspike Seed come from storm-family events, and limited pets such as the Chicken Zombie have appeared through Blood Moon cycles. During special admin sessions the developers trigger rare weather manually – logging in during announced event windows is the only way to catch mutations like Dawnbound.

Server Hopping for Storms

Weather is rolled per server – everyone in your server shares the same sky, but another server may be mid-Thunderstorm right now. When you are specifically farming Shocked, hopping between servers until you find an active storm is a legitimate and widely-used strategy. Keep crops planted at home first, since your garden persists across servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best weather event in Grow a Garden?

Thunderstorm, because Shocked (100x) is both powerful and frequent. Rarer events like Sun God (Dawnbound, 150x) are stronger but unpredictable.

Do weather mutations stack with each other?

Yes – a crop can hold Shocked, Celestial, Frozen, and more at the same time. They combine additively into one big multiplier.

Can I trigger weather myself?

No. Weather is server-wide and timed by the game, which is why leaving crops planted between events matters.

How often does Thunderstorm happen in Grow a Garden?

There is no fixed schedule – Thunderstorm is an uncommon event that typically appears every 2 to 6 hours, sometimes twice in a session, sometimes not for hours. Server hopping is the practical workaround when you need Shocked crops today.

How long does each weather event last?

Most standard events run 3 to 5 minutes. Rain is shorter at 2 to 3 minutes, Night lasts about 10, Blood Moon about 4, and flash events like Rainbow and Flood only 1 to 2 minutes – if you see one, act immediately.

Do crops get weather mutations while I am offline?

No. Offline crops keep growing but never receive weather mutations – you must be in the game when the event fires. Plan active sessions around the 4-hour Night cycle if you are chasing Moonlit, Bloodlit, or Celestial.

What is the rarest weather event?

Among natural events, Meteor Shower – it only appears during Night or Blood Moon, once every few nights. Admin-triggered events like Black Hole and Sun God are rarer still and carry the game’s most extreme mutations.

Does every server have the same weather?

Within one server, yes – weather is server-wide and hits every garden simultaneously. Across servers it differs, which is exactly why storm-hunting players hop servers to find active Thunderstorms.

Should I buy a Lightning Rod?

If you farm Thunderstorms, absolutely. Three guaranteed strikes aimed at crops of your choosing routinely pays for itself in one storm – especially on heavy crops. Check what a Shocked harvest is worth with our calculator.

Event timings and multipliers evolve, so cross-check the Grow a Garden Wiki weather page and watch the live sky in-game on the official Grow a Garden page on Roblox. Read the Grow a Garden weather rotation like a schedule and your best crops will always be planted when it matters.

Weather Windows by the Numbers

Quick answer: the night cycle applies Moonlit to six crops every two minutes across its ten-minute window, and roughly one night in three is replaced by a Blood Moon — which runs longer (about fifteen minutes) and applies Bloodlit instead. Those are the two clocks you can actually plan an AFK session around.

  • Aim the randomness with gear: the Lightning Rod (~1M Sheckles) pulls Thunderstorm strikes toward your plot, and the Star Caller (~12M) does the same for Meteor Shower — the two purchases that turn weather from lottery into placement.
  • Night Staff guarantees six Moonlit applications on demand — cheap insurance for nights you sleep through.
  • Sprinklers raise mutation chances during active weather on covered crops — overlap coverage on your premium plot.
  • Admin sessions multiply event frequency — weekends, and Saturdays especially, run more storms per hour than weekday servers.
